A DUI checkpoint at Sherman Way and Woodman Boulevard, about two miles from the crash site, had been dismantled shortly before the collision. VAN NUYS _ A 10-year-old boy died when he was ejected from his father’s car which was struck by a vehicle driven by a suspected drunken driver, officials said today. The unidentified youngster was not wearing a seatbelt when the westbound sport-utility vehicle in which he was riding was hit by a southbound Toyota Tercel driven by a woman who police believe was under the influence of alcohol, officials said. “The collision caused the 4Runner to drive off the road and hit a chain-link fence,” LAPD spokeswoman Sandra Escalante said. “That’s what caused the 10-year-old boy to be ejected.” The boy was taken to Valley Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The woman was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills with serious injuries. Officials could not say whether the boy’s father was injured.last_img
